Curtain of Solitude

Opona samoty

Curtain of Solitude captures a moment when personal pain consumes our attention so deeply that the surrounding world gradually fades into the background. A person becomes absorbed in their own struggle, while help already approaching may pass unnoticed.

The angel mourns his wing, which also binds him. His gaze is fixed on his own loss, while on the opposite side a small bird approaches carrying a single feather in its beak. This subtle gesture reveals the central idea of the work – sometimes a shift in attention is enough to discover something that has been close all along.

The horizontal format of 160 × 70 cm creates a deliberate distance between the figures, giving the empty space an essential role within the narrative. The drapery running through the composition connects the individual elements of the scene while also giving the painting its title.

Curtain of Solitude explores suffering that can obscure our awareness of the world around us, and the help whose significance can often be found in the smallest gesture.

Drapérie procházející kompozicí propojuje jednotlivé části scény a zároveň jí dává název.
